Rhys has great sporting ability, and it’s important to him to be fit and healthy. He loves being part of the crowd at sporting events but was craving more connection to people in his local community.
Rhys started a Circle of Support with 3 members – Rhys, his mum and one other person. They got the ball rolling and worked with a facilitator to grow the Circle of Support through shared interests.
One idea was to take Rhys’s love of trivia and book a table for a quiz night. Rhys’s mum invited a colleague of hers to join them.
When this new person got chatting to Rhys at the quiz night, she found out that they shared a love of running and arranged to do the local Park Run together. They’ve not only continued to meet up and run together, but she’s also become a member of Rhys’ Circle of Support.
Through other introductions and invites to trusted people in Rhys’ family and community network, his circle has now grown to 6 members.
For Rhys, conversation and connection best happens when being outdoors and active. Circle members have organised beach days and paddle boarding, hikes and campfires. The circle members bring their family members along to these catch ups, and the pictures tell the story of how much everyone enjoys the time together.
Rhys’ connections in his local community are strong and growing. He is involved with the Goodwood football club and plays for the Goodwood cricket club. He has a micro enterprise ‘Chiselled Design’ which supplies high quality handcrafted wooden planters to a local business.
The circle of support members get together regularly as a group. Rhys’s facilitator also assists with planning and coordination for Rhys to join circle members in family and community events.
